The $10,000 a Month Your Nonprofit Already Has for Giving Tuesday

  • Somewhere inside your Google Ads account sits a budget you already qualified for.

It resets every month. It is worth up to $10,000. Most of it goes unused.

This is the Google Ad Grant, the search advertising program Google runs for eligible 501(c)(3) nonprofits. Qualifying organizations get up to $10,000 a month in free Google Search ads, close to $120,000 a year in ad inventory.

That account is usually run by a development director or an executive director, squeezed in between grant reports and donor calls.

Google’s own FAQ says the funds do not roll over. Whatever goes unspent by the end of the month disappears, and a fresh $10,000 loads into the account on the first. It’s common for nonprofit Ad Grant accounts to spend only a few thousand dollars of that in a given month.

The grant was never the hard part

Getting approved for Ad Grants takes some paperwork and a working website. Most organizations clear it.

The harder part comes after approval: deciding what to point the money at.

A generic “support our mission” campaign, aimed at broad keywords with no clear next step, burns through relevance fast. Google requires a 5 percent click-through rate at the account level to stay in the program. Vague campaigns miss that mark. Specific ones clear it, because the ad, the keyword, and the landing page all point at the same narrow thing.

Giving Tuesday becomes more than a date on the calendar

You already have the ad budget. What you’ve been missing is one clear, dated campaign worth pointing it at, built to run for weeks.

September, October, and November give you three full monthly resets before December 1: up to $30,000 in ad inventory, if the account stays active and the campaign underneath it is tight enough to spend it well. That’s the same window your Giving Tuesday campaign already needs to run in.

The nonprofits that get real value from this program are the ones running one specific ask, tied to one search intent, backed by ad copy that says exactly what a first-time searcher needs to hear before they click.

By the way, that page cannot be a bare donation form. Google requires nonprofit sites to carry substantial content unique to the organization, and a single screen with nothing but a Donate button does not clear that bar. The ad lands on a page you own, one that makes the case in a few real sentences, and that page is what sends the donor on to Stripe, Classy, or whatever processor actually takes the gift.

A properly built Giving Tuesday campaign is the fastest way to finally put that budget to work. The specific ask, the landing page built for someone who has never heard of you, the sequence of emails and posts that keeps the campaign moving through December 1: that’s its own conversation.
